Tomorrow at noon, the newly formed Special Investigating Committee (SIC) of the Illinois House of Representatives will hold its first hearing concerning allegations of misconduct against State Representative Carol Ammons (D-Urbana). State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) will serve as one of six members on the bipartisan committee.
On July 10, 11 members of the Illinois House Republican Caucus filed a petition to initiate a Special Investigating Committee concerning Rep. Ammons. Submitted pursuant to House Rule 91, the petition establishes the Committee to review allegations of misconduct. Ammons was indicted in federal court on July 7, 2026, on multiple counts of wire fraud and one count of making a false statement to the FBI related to her work in the Illinois General Assembly.
Under House Rules, the Speaker and Minority Leader must appoint three members from each caucus to serve on the Special Investigating Committee. State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) was selected alongside Reps. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) and Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) to serve on the committee by House Minority Leader Tony McCombie.
The Special Investigating Committee process is about accountability and ensuring the Illinois House fully examines the allegations involving an elected official and determines whether further action is warranted. The allegations against Rep. Ammons are serious and require a full and impartial review.

Rep. Ugaste serves Illinois House District 65, which includes parts of Kane and DuPage counties.
