Ugaste Reacts to SIC’s Ruling

Geneva—After the House Special Investigating Committee abruptly concluded its investigation into House Speaker Mike Madigan today, State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) released the following statement:

“I am calling on my colleagues across the aisle to reconsider their decision to refuse to subpoena witnesses before the House Special Investigation Committee looking in to allegations involving Speaker Mike Madigan. Hearing testimony from only one witness who voluntarily appeared before the committee is no way to make a determination on this extremely important issue.

Trust in Illinois government is at an all-time low and we must do what we can to restore the faith the people of Illinois have in their government and elected officials. One way we can actively do that is by conducting full hearings into the serious allegations raised against the Speaker.

Today, I am joining House Republican Leader Jim Durkin in demanding the testimony of Speaker Madigan in this scandal and that the Speaker resign from office. It is time that we resume business in the Illinois House, which includes everything from pressing COVID-19 matters to comprehensive ethics reform.”
