ST. CHARLES – In response to the United States Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (2022), State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) released the following statement:
“This Supreme Court decision moves the matter of abortion back to the states. Illinois already has the most liberal abortion laws in the country, so this changes nothing in our state on this issue. In fact, despite the fact that the vast majority of Illinoisans opposed it, Illinois Democrats pushed through a repeal of the Parental Notice Act last fall—denying parents the right to know about serious medical procedures their minor child could be undergoing.
“Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats are focusing on this decision instead of the concerns impacting Illinois families today to deflect their attention. Major corporate headquarters announced they are leaving Illinois in the past 30 days, the sales tax on the skyrocketing cost of gas is increasing with it, and there is an unacceptable rise in violent crime in Illinois. I suggest Governor Pritzker calls us back for a special session to address these issues and other problems Illinoisans are facing in our state.”
