SPRINGFIELD – In response to House Floor Amendment 4 to Senate Bill 1534 to require Illinois insurance plans to cover gender affirming medication and surgical gender reassignment surgery, State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) released the following statement:
“This legislation sets standards which mean doctors can provide hormonal therapy or surgical gender reassignment surgery with no age limit and no parental involvement. Illinois insurance plans will now have to cover gender affirming medication to be covered without a copay or deductible, regardless of the person’s ability to pay. It will also increase premiums on all Illinoisans. This legislation is fiscally irresponsible and harmful for Illinois parents and children.”
