SPRINGFIELD – With the observance of International Firefighters Day on May 4th, State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) is recognizing firefighters from the 65th District and urging community support for these heroic first responders.
“When we have a fire, carbon monoxide leak, medical emergency, or other emergency needing assistance, firefighters are there for us,” said Rep. Ugaste. “Today is a reminder of the sacrifices that firefighters and their families make to keep our communities safe. Remember to show your support for local firefighters, knowing they go into work truly not knowing what the day will bring, and courageously serving our communities despite the risk.”
International Firefighters Day recognizes and honors sacrifices that firefighters make around the world to ensure their communities are as safe as possible. It’s also a day to thank past firefighters for their contributions. This day and upcoming week are also times to remember and honor firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice for Illinois communities with the upcoming Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service in Springfield.
The Illinois Firefighter Memorial on the Capitol grounds is dedicated to Illinois firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty and those firefighters who heroically serve with courage, pride, and honor. The 2023 Medal of Honor Ceremony and Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service will be held in Springfield on Tuesday, May 9th at 10:00 a.m.
