Rep. Ugaste Statement on issue in St. Charles School District

At a recent School Board Meeting one of the issues discussed was that a number of immigrant families who arrived in the United States have been placed within St. Charles School District 303. These families have at least 49 children who entered the school district during the current school year alone. It was further discussed that these families were placed here by the World Relief Organization, in conjunction with the U.S. State Department.

It appears that most of these children do not speak English, so additional staffing and resources are needed for them to be properly educated. A majority of these students are located at one elementary school, with others scattered throughout the district.

State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) has issued the following statement on this issue:

“Illinois has already taken on its share of immigrants with little to no assistance from the federal government. In an overburdened state with already high taxes, especially high property taxes, this is putting further strain on our schools and community. First and foremost, the federal government must close the border. Next, if immigrants are allowed in this country, it should be the federal government’s job to provide the funding they need, including additional resources to educate the children. Our schools are having to figure out how to properly care for and educate these children without any advance notice or additional funding from the federal government. This situation is a direct result of the Biden administration’s and Democrats’ broken immigration system. Democrats like to complain when they do not get any notice or cooperation, and in this instance, it appears that is exactly what the Democrat-controlled Federal Government is doing in my District. I will continue to follow up on this issue.”
