Rep. Ugaste Urges Governor to Focus on Illinois First

Springfield, IL – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) is encouraging Governor J.B. Pritzker to focus on Illinois citizens and move away from his, and his party’s, latest rounds of political grandstanding.

“Our economy is lagging the rest of the nation, our unemployment rate consistently ranks as one of the highest in the nation, we have the highest property taxes in the country, some of the worst population loss, and safety issues in our communities, Rep. Ugaste stated. “And yet since last November the Democrats, led by Governor Pritzker, have focused solely on responding to what the President says and does.”

“Instead of using his time to make a video mocking the President, the Governor could have spent time meeting with Republican legislators that want the TRUST Act repealed,” Ugaste continued. “All of our focus should be on keeping our neighborhoods safe by allowing ICE to remove dangerous illegal immigrants from our jails and prisons. The Governor could also encourage Democrats to consider the many solutions Republicans have to lower property taxes, improve economic activity, and actually grow Illinois’ economy and population, rather than passing meaningless resolutions and wasting an entire week of Session.”

“And rather than targeting a political group and blocking them from working for the state as a result of their involvement in Washington on January 6, why didn’t the Governor review each case individually?” Rep. Ugaste continued. “Many people have suggested that the President should have done that when he was granting pardons. The hypocrisy is evident and especially true when our state allows convicted or pardoned felons to be fire chiefs or county clerks.”

“I encourage the Governor, with the support of the Democrat House super-majority, to take a break from his never-ending audition for a national role and actually deal with the real issues affecting Illinois citizens,” Ugaste concluded.
