Rep. Ugaste Supports Passage of HB 3671

Springfield, IL – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) is a co-sponsor of HB 3671, which passed the House unanimously today. The legislation was an initiative of the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. The bill now moves on to the Senate for further consideration.

HB 3761 assists with the expediency of prosecution of individuals who distribute private images without consent and allows for them to be tried in the county where the offense occurred or the county in which the victim resides. The legislation requires the prosecution to only have to show where the victim lives or resides, and not the offender, in order for the legal process to continue. An example of this change would allow for venue and prosecution of individuals who send images from other states to people who reside in Illinois.

“I commend DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin for helping to bring this important legislation forward,” Rep. Ugaste stated. “The Illinois Chiefs of Police and Illinois State’s Attorney Association also were proponents of this bill, and this change enhances our state’s attorneys’ efforts in prosecuting criminals.”
