St. Charles, IL – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) is calling on the Illinois State Board of Education and Superintendent Tony Sanders to maintain the current student test score proficiency standards in Illinois. ISBE is scheduled to vote today on proposed changes to lower those standards.
“We should not be lowering our standards for our students’ education in Illinois,” stated Rep. Ugaste. “We’ve maintained the current levels for years, but suddenly we want to lower them? What’s going on in some other states is irrelevant. Instead of focusing on lowering the bar, ISBE should be encouraging and helping districts teach students to reach and even exceed the current standards of educational proficiency. Why would we want to lower the standards for our children, and in turn jeopardize their futures? This makes no sense. I urge ISBE and Superintendent Sanders to leave the educational proficiency standards alone and not vote on these proposed changes.”
