Springfield, IL – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) issued the following statement in response to Governor Pritzker’s formal signing of the Fiscal Year 2027 state budget:
“Governor Pritzker has once again signed a budget that increases state spending, delivers more tax increases, and provides no direct property tax relief to Illinois homeowners. Democrats in Illinois championed affordability as one of their top priorities this year, but not surprisingly, they delivered the largest budget in state history at $55.9 billion. Since 2019, state spending has increased by 40%, with little to no population growth to support the additional spending. Illinois families desperately need lower taxes, lower costs, and responsible spending, but this budget does the opposite. The $800 million in new tax hikes and the bloated budget come on top of the 57 tax and fee increases enacted during Governor Pritzker’s tenure. Those tax and fee increases have cost Illinois taxpayers more than $77 billion during that time.”
