GENEVA—State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) released the following statement in reaction to the shooting that took place in Aurora, which is just outside the legislative district he represents.
News broke yesterday of a shooting that took place at a manufacturing warehouse, a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products, where a man opened fire killing five people, and wounding five police officers. When first responders arrived on the scene, the gunman exchanged fire with police officers. It was recently released to the public that the shooter was 45-year-old Gary Martin, who was let go from the company on Friday, and who was fatally shot in the incident.
“This is surreal to have this happen in what feels like my backyard,” said Ugaste. “Aurora is a community where I have gone to worship for years. It is very close to where I live, and the residents that I represent. My heart goes out to all the victims, their families, and the first responders who were involved in this tragedy. They will remain in our thoughts and our prayers.”
The identities of the victims have not been released yet. According to Aurora Police Chief, Kristen Ziman, the six officers that were injured are all in stable condition.
