SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) passed his first bill in the Human Services Committee today in Springfield.
The bill, HB3274, would help seniors navigate the state services available to them. It requires the Department on Aging, Department of Human services and the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to identify all programs operating in the State, both public and private, that provide services to meet the needs of seniors. The Department on Aging will be tasked with compiling and maintaining a list of the programs, a brief description of the program, eligibility requirements, and instructions on how to apply for the program on their website. In addition, printed copies of this information will be available at area agencies on aging and at each DMV.
“Previously, each state agency had these resources listed on their own website,” said Ugaste. “This bill simplifies the process to make all the information seniors may need to access easier to find, navigate and utilize. It will help make things easier on our seniors and more efficient for all residents looking for these types of resources.”
HB3274 passed the Human Services Committee with unanimous support and will now move forward for further consideration in the House.
