St. Charles, IL – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) has issued a statement regarding immigration policy and enforcement in Illinois. With the Trump administration now in charge, federal officials have made it known their intentions to better protect our communities. They should be allowed to do their jobs and deport undocumented immigrants who have a criminal record.
“I urge Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson to let federal officials and Immigrations and Custom Enforcement (ICE) do their jobs in cleaning up our neighborhoods and making our communities safer,” Rep. Ugaste stated. “We must repeal the TRUST Act and allow for cooperation on local levels. The safety of our residents is paramount, and allowing federal officials to remove criminals from jails instead of neighborhoods would make much more sense and could possibly save lives. We need to change course immediately, and we have allowed undocumented criminals to jeopardize the safety of Illinois citizens for way too long. Public safety is not a partisan issue, and Democrats must work to cooperate with federal efforts to remove people who are not here legally and have criminal records.”
