Springfield, IL – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) is calling on Governor Pritzker to repeal the TRUST Act and allow local law enforcement officials to cooperate with federal authorities to help detain and remove undocumented individuals who have committed a crime from our streets. Rep. Ugaste is a co-sponsor of House Bill 1317, which would repeal the Illinois TRUST Act.
Key provisions of the TRUST Act include restricting the sharing of information with federal immigration authorities and limiting access to local facilities and resources for immigration enforcement purposes. The Trump administration has made it clear its priorities to remove and deport undocumented individuals who have committed crimes to help make all communities safer across the country.
“Governor Pritzker has said if you commit a crime, we don’t want you here,” Rep. Ugaste stated. “In order to remove these criminals from our streets and do it safely, we must repeal the TRUST Act. Why would we want federal officials to have to go into local neighborhoods without cooperation from local authorities? If the Governor is serious about removing these criminals from our neighborhoods, then let’s prioritize public safety first and foremost. Cooperation between local, state, and federal authorities is a must if we want to do this right.”
