Rep. Ugaste Responds to Governor Pritzker’s Testimony Before Congressional Committee

St. Charles, IL – State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) issued the following statement in response to Governor Pritzker’s testimony today in Washington, D.C. before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Governor Pritzker was called before Congress to testify about Illinois’ sanctuary state policies.

“Under Governor Pritzker’s reign, Illinois has become the go-to destination for illegal immigrants, where they can receive platinum healthcare, housing, food, and more – all on the taxpayers’ dime. Illinois law bans local authorities from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when they try to locate dangerous illegal immigrants, putting local neighborhoods and innocent citizens at high risk of danger.

“The Governor’s testimony today included his usual rhetoric of blame, deflection, and denial, with zero accountability,” Ugaste continued. “We don’t need more rhetoric or clever soundbites on immigration issues; we need real action. The migrant crisis in Illinois has cost Illinois taxpayers over $3 billion since 2022, and that doesn’t include education and other services. While Governor Pritzker is busy traversing the country on a Presidential campaign, he continues to ignore and deflect the reality that his failed leadership and policies have been devastating for our state.”
